Marks & Spencer sees growth in mobile friendly website

For many years Marks & Spencer has been accused of being out of touch and out of date but the company has today revealed big hopes for its new mobile friendly website which can be accessed via any web enabled mobile phone or device. It is the ability to access the website, in the correct format, without downloading any additional applications or software which could be the jewel in the crown.

While there is no doubt that mobile phone use and mobile broadband use has increased dramatically over the last few years, this is the first time that a major UK retailer has attempted to access the market. Marks & Spencer has in the region of 21 million customers in the UK and if only a small fraction were to access and acquire goods via their mobile phones this would give a large boost to the company's profitability.

Even though shopping via a mobile phone is not a new phenomenon it is certainly one which is gaining in popularity as the months and years go by. It is very much down to a trust factor with regards to purchasing online and there are few names which can match the influence and respect shown to Marks & Spencer. Could this be Marks & Spencer's new route to the future?
