David Cameron highlights plight of regional economies

David Cameron has literally hit the ground running with regards to regional economic initiatives with a promise to appoint ministers for each of the UK's major cities. It has been well known for many years that London does not only take centre stage in the international arena but also attracts the lion's share of income for the UK economy. The need to reduce this dependence on London has been evident for some time and David Cameron now seems prepared to tackle the issue.

Despite the fact that investment in regional development agencies has been reduced by David Cameron he has promised to bring in new ministers to overlook the regeneration of economies and societies across the UK. It is believed the intention is to allow certain areas in the UK to specialise in certain sectors which have potential for the future, thereby attracting jobs and further investment in due course. This looks like a perfectly plausible idea although funding and putting the new investment programs in place may not be quite as easy.

Even though David Cameron has only been in office for a short time he has brought a breath of fresh air to the UK political arena, although his honeymoon period is certain to end at some point!
