Is life really better overseas?

As more and more UK citizens, especially businesspeople and entrepreneurs, look towards a possible new life overseas it is worth asking the question, would life really be better in a foreign land?

One of the main issues with the UK has been ever-increasing personal and business taxation which has been spiralling higher for many years, as well as an increase in the basic cost of living and utility services.

The sad fact is that while six months ago the UK economy was in a far worse position than European counterparts, this has changed dramatically over the last few weeks. Ongoing issues with the Greek budget deficit as well as problems in Spain, Portugal and Ireland, to name but a few, have seen the "competitive edge" of life overseas evaporate for those looking towards Europe.

In reality there is not a country in the world which has escaped the worldwide economic downturn and there is not a country in the world which will not need to increase taxes in the short to medium term and reduced investment in public sector services. Whether the situation is slightly different for those moving for business reasons is debatable as there has been a massive increase in red tape and business expenses in the UK over the last decade.

But is the grass always greener on the other side?
