Unemployment strikes at the heart of family life

A report from the Office for National Statistics has today cast a dark shadow over UK employment market with news that between April and June 2010 there were 3.9 million homes in the UK where no adults were in employment. This is a rise of 148,000 on the second quarter of 2009 and will place more pressure on the UK benefits system in the short to medium term.

It is also believed that a large portion of those living in the 3.9 million homes in question feel so down hearted with the UK and the UK economy that many have given up looking for employment in the short-term. This is a damning indictment of the current situation in the UK and while many are pointing the finger of blame at the previous Labour Party government, much of the issues coming to the fore today are a result of the credit crunch and the down turn in the worldwide economy.

Unfortunately for David Cameron and his coalition colleagues they have been left to take the very difficult and often controversial decisions regarding public spending and taxes which are likely to make a difficult situation worse in the short term although hopefully lead to more prosperity in the longer-term.
