TUC attacks government spending cuts
In a damning assessment of the UK government's proposed budget cuts and tax rises the TUC has today issued a report suggesting that pensioners and single parents will bear the brunt of the forthcoming budget changes. Indeed the TUC believes that the poorest elements of the UK society will be hit a worrying 10 times harder than the rich.
Not only does the TUC believe that direct cuts will impact upon household income in the UK but the reduction in investment in health, social and educational services will also impact on those on lower incomes in the UK. There is no doubt that as a percentage of wealth, those in the low income bracket will feel the pain more than those at the higher end of the income scale. However, when you consider that allegedly 4/5th of the proposed budget cuts announced so far were previously announced by the Labour Party this does show the need to reduce public-sector spending in the UK.
However, there is no doubt that the Labour Party would have taken a very different tack to the coalition government instead looking to hammer the rich and protect those on low incomes as much as possible. Whether the coalition government has found a suitable balance between the impact on low income families and high-income families is a matter of debate.
