Should political parties run the UK economy?

As the UK economy continues to struggle along, with many concerned about a double-digit recession in the short to medium term, perhaps it is time to ask the question as to whether political parties are actually qualified to run the UK economy?

When you look at the coalition party and the number of successful business people, billionaires and others well connected in the business arena that have been brought in as advisers by David Cameron, should the UK economy be handled by a totally independent third party?

The very fact that the likes of David Cameron, and many other prime ministers and MPs before him, have no real experience in the business arena is something which is often overlooked. We are literally putting the UK economy, business arena and personal financial wealth in the hands of people who have in some cases never run a business themselves. Is this really the way forward?

While this may be something of a controversial subject, and indeed many will disagree, perhaps now is the time to have an open debate regarding the experience and the ability of the coalition government, previous governments and future governments to actually run the UK economy?
