Vince Cable concerned about UK immigration policy
Vince Cable has today suggested that he may well consider his position within the coalition government if the issue of immigration is not addressed sooner rather than later. He cited a UK company requiring 500 specialists with 250 likely to come from outside the European Union. Apparently the company has been given a quota of just 30 by the authorities, which is only a fraction of those required to grow the business.
As a consequence, Vince Cable has suggested indirectly that the period of "collective responsibility" is coming to an end and he gave his greatest hint yes but he might consider his position within the government. When you take into account that Vince Cable is the Business Secretary for the coalition government this could have far-reaching consequences for the fragile alignment. He has also highlighted a major problem for the UK employment markets and with the Liberal Democrats in favour of less restrictive movement to the UK and the Conservative party looking to cap immigration it would appear there could be problems ahead.
The subject of immigration is one which is very often swept under the carpet but one which is troubling the UK business arena and likely to cause problems if not addressed.
