Why have national governments stopped working together?

Only a few weeks ago the likes of the UK, US, France, Germany, China and Japan were all singing from the same hymn sheet with regards to the worldwide economy. However, it is becoming more and more evident that over the last couple of weeks there has been a change in strategy from many of the leading economies in the world and more focus has been placed upon their own domestic economies as opposed to the worldwide economy. So why have national governments stopped working together?

When the US economy was picking up the sky seemed to be clearer and many of the more prominent economies around the world were happy to piggyback the expected recovery in the US economy. However, now that the US economy appears to hit something of a buffer and is in fact set to turn down it seems that national governments have now retracted and focused entirely upon their own domestic economies. The truth is there are major challenges for each and every government around the world and there are major challenges for each and every economy.

While there will be meetings between the so-called leading economies and leading governments the fact remains that the worldwide economy has become something of a second issue behind domestic economic bliss.
