Google announces launch of Google price index
As if world domination was not enough for those at search engine giant Google the company has now announced plans to introduce a Google price index which will effectively monitor the price of goods and services on the Internet. The company hopes to make a break into the macroeconomics market and when you consider that the Internet is home to millions upon millions of retailers offering millions and millions of services and products then maybe a review of prices online could be useful?
There is no doubt that Google has information to hand which many in the marketing industry would literally kill for. The company has ongoing access to website information, Google caches as well as a global shopping experience whereby retailers are able to advertise their wares. It will be interesting to see how this Google index materialises and indeed whether any governments or any prominent business associations around the world take an interest.
Historically the economic community has been something of a closed shop and it is unlikely that economists around the world will welcome "the new kid on the block". However, it does make you wonder what else those entrepreneurs at Google have up their sleeves?
