Is the UK government concentrating too much on politics?
This weekend saw the emergence of what has to be one of the most disturbing stories in politics over the last decade. It would appear that at least two employees of the Labour Party/government had been plotting to destabilise the Conservative opposition party with potentially libellous stories and innuendo. Without going into too much detail regarding the content of the e-mails which were leaked to the press, there are concerns that the UK government is focusing too much on politics and too little on the economy.
Despite assurances from Gordon Brown when he entered office that his tenure would see a significant reduction in spin and "shadow politics" it would appear this has not been the case. While the UK government has today wheeled out the big players to defend Gordon Brown he has left himself open to accusations of putting himself before the country. The fact that the Labour Party, during this most distressing of recessions, is looking towards the next general election is not a surprise but the amount of time and effort apparently being directed towards the election is causing some anger across the UK.
Surely now is the time to concentrate on the UK economy, put politics to one side and ensure the UK is fit enough to recover as and when the worldwide economy shows signs of an uplift.
