Why Is The Humble Post Office Disappearing?

As more MPs join the chorus of criticism for the ever growing closure of post offices across the UK it seems that more and more people are being left stranded. Despite assurance by the government that nobody would be any worse off after the closures many people are being forced to travel miles for the simplest of actions such as withdrawing pensions, etc.

The introduction of so called mobile post offices has proved to be something of a joke with these services unable to cope with the demand left behind when some of the larger post offices across the UK were closed down. Slowly but surely the post office is being dismantled at a cost of millions and leaving literally thousands without employment.

It is not too long ago that the government had placed the post office at the centre of local communities and promised to protect their future. Then the Treasury stepped in and decided that ultimately the post office will be sold off or floated on the stock market - although the authorities have been very coy about the exact time and nature of any break up.

The humble post office of yesteryear is disappearing for ever even though the ones which remain open are offering more and more services.
