Is the immigration issue is set to explode in UK?
As unemployment continues to creep higher and higher there are serious concerns growing in government circles that the issue of immigration is set to dominate the headlines in the weeks and months to come. Many believe that the current government is set to pay the price for a very slack and lacklustre immigration policy which has seen the UK attract millions of workers from overseas.
In the good times the number of foreign workers is often ignored by domestic workers but when jobs are difficult to find and people are losing their homes this is when the issue can become rather heated. We also see various headlines regarding visitors to the UK taking substantial benefit payments, homes and generally being "looked after" by the authority. Whether this is more media presentation or fact remains to be seen with the headlines are causing serious problems in many parts of the country.
The problem for the UK government is the fact that they have signed up to various agreements over the last decade and these agreements do not take into account the economic environment and the domestic market place. This issue is sure to come to the fore the closer we get to the next general election.
