If you haven't got it how can you spend it?
As the UK population again moves under the spotlight regarding the fall in the UK economy many are now starting to ask the question "if you haven't got money how can you spend it?". A quick review of the last six months has seen the UK population pushed to the forefront of recovery plans in the UK and seen by many as the spark to light the fire. We have seen VAT reductions, base rates fall yet further but against this backdrop we have seen unemployment and confidence in future employment hit substantially.
The bottom line is that if people do not have confidence in their employment then they will not spend the extra money they may have saved up or they may have after covering their bills each month. Unlike the government, which stand accused of not saving in the boom years, many of the UK workforce are desperate to try and get an emergency fund in place. So-called disposable income spending has disappeared over the last few months and areas such as leisure and entertainment have been hit fairly hard.
The Church of England came forward only recently to suggest the government was wrong to encourage further debt for consumers as a means of refloating economy. Many people would wholeheartedly agree!
