'Swapping provider not always required to make savings'

Changing provider is not the only way that customers can save money on their gas and electricity bills, a price comparison site has said. Over the last month, four of the UK’s largest energy providers - British Gas, npower, EDF and Scottish Power - have announced double digit increases to bills. The news prompted a slew of advisors to suggest that consumers affected shop around for a cheaper deal and contemplate swapping provider. However, according to Michelle Slade, an analyst at Moneyfacts.co.uk, this may not be necessary since it is likely that your existing provider could also offer a cheaper deal. Yet, despite this fact, customers are being kept unaware of this fact by suppliers, she claims. "When you do a search on the likes of Moneyfacts.co.uk to get a better deal on your utilities, sometimes this will reveal that your current supplier has a cheaper deal - but why don’t they tell you this?"Switching supplier isn’t always necessary. Just by switching tariffs with your existing supplier, you could make savings. Finding out and switching to the best deal for your energy consumption could save you as much as £320 each year."
