Why Is The UK Such An Expensive Place To Live?
Since the start of the economic slowdown we have seen a number of comparisons with living costs in an array of countries around the world and it seems as though the UK is always near the top. But is the UK really as expensive as people make out or is the argument too one sided?
In order to appreciate the cost of living in the UK and all of the everyday items you would expect to purchase you also need to consider the level of wealth in the country. A quick cost of living comparison between many areas of Europe will see the UK fairing badly but much of this has been down to the recent fall in sterling which has not helped the situation.
Many people also seem to conveniently forget that the UK has one of the highest levels of gross domestic product in Europe and is one of the leading lights when it comes to personal wealth. While some of this buffer zone between the cost of living and personal wealth may have been eroded of late, the UK still has a very prosperous undercurrent which will surely rise again.
When you consider the relative merits of the cost of living and income, the UK is no where near as bad as many would have you believe. Times are tough but many other areas of Europe are feeling it harder than the UK.
