Council Agrees To Executive Working From Home, In Australia!
In a move which has been ridiculed by the Taxpayers Alliance Group it has been announced that Fenland District Council in Cambridgeshire has agreed to continue employing their executive director and chief finance officer Mat Taylor even though he is emigrating to Australia in October. While his current salary of £100,000 a year will be cut to £20,000 when he move to Australia he will only be working one day a week for the next twelve months!
While it is obvious that the council holds Mr Taylor in the highest regard there is a concern that as he is not even in the UK he will not be aware of what is happening on the ground. The council has fought back and suggested that rather than pay an interim manager £800 a day until the post has been filled, it was more cost affective to use the latest email, internet and video link technology to allow Mr Taylor to look after the council's budget from Australia.
Even though there are elements of his current position which he will not be able to do when he leaves the UK, many of which have already been allocated to colleagues, there seems to be little reason why he cannot continue to supervise and manage the use of the councils annual budget.
