Gordon Brown leads assault on tax avoidance

In a strategy which Gordon Brown has replicated on numerous occasions over the last 18 months, he has joined a new bandwagon in the fight against tax avoidance on a global scale. Many believe the headlines of the G20 $1.1 trillion rescue package and the forthcoming assault on tax avoidance have taken away the damaging headlines detailing the severity of the downturn in the UK. In a carefully planned strategy Gordon Brown appears to have adopted something of a scorched earth policy whereby he is willing to throw literally billions upon billions of taxpayer's money at the problem of refloating the worldwide economy.

Quite why tax avoidance has become something of a political hot potato in the short term is something of a mystery, as there is very little short-term benefit to economies around the world. Surely now is the time to bring together members of the G20 and other prominent governments around the world to act together to refloat the global economy. This policy of adding different issues to the overall picture appears to be wearing thin with UK voters although in the run up to the next general election this will only be the start.
