Tax cut hint from Brown
The prime minister has hinted that tax cuts may be proposed in the upcoming pre-Budget report from the government.Gordon Brown was quizzed on the possibilities of cuts on GMTV this morning (November 10th) and said that the government had already helped people by taking steps such as freezing petrol duty.However, he revealed that he was "determined" to get the world's economies on track again "and one way you can do that is by putting more money into the economy by tax cuts or public spending rises but that's something we have got to look at in the next few weeks".When it was put to him that tax cuts would be more beneficial now than in the future, he responded: "We've got a pre-Budget report in the next few days."The Tories have also said that they would cut taxes to help people through the downturn, but said they would not borrow more money to do it.Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader, told the BBC that the other parties were "clambering on the bandwagon", claiming that his party had been touting tax cuts for months.
