Which economic forecasts do you believe regarding the UK economy?
The announcement that the OECD has further downgraded forecasts for the UK economy in 2009 has been taken with a pinch of salt by many experts who believe the organisation "has it in for the UK". This is an organisation which has been downbeat on the prospects for the UK for many months even when other experts appear to be turning more positive on the immediate prospects for the country. So which reports do you believe?
Each and every report which is released appears to have some kind of bias for or against the UK economy and the UK as a whole so in order to get an understanding of the underlying situation in the UK we need to appreciate and acknowledge all opinions published. The only way forward really is a consensus forecast which at this moment in time appears to be turning more and more positive with regards to the UK. While this could change in a very short period of time, as we saw when the credit crunch hit home, it does appear as though there is reason for hope in the UK.
It is unfortunate that many reports seem to have a positive or negative bias towards the UK as they can, as we have seen in the past, affect both investor sentiment and consumer sentiment.
