Gordon Brown attacked by Alistair Darling
Over the weekend there have been various allegations in the Sunday press regarding the relationship between Alistair Darling, Chancellor of Exchequer, and Gordon Brown, the Prime Minister of the UK. One particular article in the Mail on Sunday alleges that Alistair Darling is at loggerheads with Gordon Brown regarding future public sector spending and the fact that Gordon Brown seems more interested in attacking the Conservative party policies on public sector spending than issuing his own government's proposals for the future.
It is well known that Alistair Darling would prefer to see a reduction in public sector spending in the short to medium term as the UK authorities get set to tackle the exploding UK national debt. The relationship between the two former friends seems to be at breaking point and many believe that Gordon Brown had attempted to oust Alistair Darling at the last cabinet shakeup only to have his plans thwarted, which consequently led to a loss of power and reputation for the Prime Minister.
It has to be said that Alistair Darling, while the most prominent figure to speak out against Gordon Brown, is not alone in the UK Labour Party with regards to concerns about public sector spending. There is no way that the UK government can continue at the same pace because ultimately UK taxpayers will pay the price, a price which seems to be growing day by day.
