Gordon Brown under pressure after Andrew Marr interview

On day one of the Labour Party conference Gordon Brown is under intense pressure regarding his health after a very intrusive question from the political editor of the BBC, Andrew Marr. He questioned Gordon Brown on the use of prescription drugs and his health in general amid rumours circulating Westminster that Gordon Brown has seen a deterioration in his sight over the last few months. So what exactly is going on?

Ahead of the most important Labour Party conference in recent times, the last thing Gordon Brown wanted was questions regarding his health and his ability to continue as Prime Minster. He would much rather focus on the economy and his plans to slash national debt over the next four years. However, all focus has been taken away from the political scene and laid fairly and squarely at the door of Gordon Brown and his personal health - although he has confirmed there is no substance to the rumours.

However, Peter Mandelson has been quick to take the initiative and suggested that the intrusive question from Andrew Marr has opened a new avenue for political interviews and he hopes other party leaders would be subject to the same level of scrutiny. The BBC has for many years been deemed to be "in the pocket" of the Labour Party although today's question from Andrew Marr would appear to blow that particular myth out of the water.
