Lord Sugar may step down from his advisory role

While many people thought that Lord Sugar was a strange choice for the government's enterprise adviser, bearing in mind his forthright and "in your face" approach to business life, it seems that he is this weekend considering his position with the government. He hit the headlines only last week after criticising small business owners who were concerned about the reduction of capital and liquidity in the business banking arena.

While Lord Sugar has clarified his comments and let it be known that he believes they were taken out of context, this is the first real headlines he has taken and they are not very complimentary with regards to his performance and roll so far. If he does decide to leave Gordon Brown's inner circle of government advisers this would be another bitter blow for the Prime Minister who has slowly but surely seen his circle of trusted advisers and confidants eroded over the last few months.

The truth is that Lord Sugar has much to give and has experience which many small business owners would pay the earth for, but ultimately his style is maybe not transferable to the political arena where every word and every suggestion can and is blown out of all proportion.
