Gordon Brown sets the tone for a bitter election campaign
This week will see Gordon Brown announce a number of new initiatives from the UK government and lay down a challenge to the Conservative party to support those most in need across the UK. In what could end up being one of the longest election campaigns in living history, lasting up to 6 months, it seems inevitable we will see much mud-slinging from both parties as we approach the big day.
Top of the agenda will be health, education and the economy with a particular attack on the UK banking system, the traditional backers of the Conservative party. The Labour Party will be looking to split the Conservative party down the middle as it attempts to shore up its own support within the lower paid voters of the UK at the expense of "middle England". However, as we saw with today's rumour of a U-turn on childcare vouchers it seems as though the Labour Party still require the support of "middle England" to stand a fighting chance of spoiling the Conservative party.
Gordon Brown will do well to arrange support from traditional Labour Party voters as well as attracting those from the "middle England" arena at a time when his standing across the UK is rock bottom and the Conservative party, according to recent polls, has opened up a 14 point gap over the government.
