Will we see a mass exodus from the UK in due course?
Over the last 20 years there has been a marked increase in the number of UK nationals moving overseas for employment and retirement. Historically this has been built upon a prosperous economy which has seen many people sell up and move to pastures new where the cost of living may traditionally have been substantially lower.
However over the last couple of years we have seen more and more people leave the UK because of the trend towards higher taxation, a higher cost of living and an employment scene which has seen the UK become a home to many workers from overseas. As and when we pull out of the current economic downturn there are grave concerns that more and more people will look to move away and we could see an exodus of not only UK-based companies but a substantial number of UK nationals.
The UK corporate market is in danger of not only losing leading companies, some of which have already moved to more tax friendly Ireland, but also a potential brain drain if the ever increasing cost of living in the UK is not addressed sooner rather than later.
