Has the death of the UK economy saved Gordon Brown?

On the back of the Glenrothes by-election victory many are now hailing Gordon Brown as the man who came back from the dead to reclaim his throne. Just six short months ago Gordon Brown was literally dead and buried with numerous knives in his back from those who believed he could trust and the UK voter having disowned him.

How ironic that the man who many believe caused the mess in the UK and continues to increase UK debt at a time when the economy is collapsing may well be saved by this situation. Whether or not this recent increase in popularity can be translated into votes at the next general election remains to be seen but the immediate future of Gordon Brown is very much secure. However, if the ongoing rescue package fails to refloat the UK economy Gordon Brown is likely to see that voters in UK have very short memories!

Many have also questioned the fact that Gordon Brown has taken much of the credit for the ongoing rescue package leaving Alistair Darling to pick up the pieces and answer questions on the more tricky situations. There is a feeling that Alistair Darling has been somewhat left out to dry, taking the blame for the problems and being sidelined for the more popular decisions.
