Is there a secret plot to oust George Osborne

The last few days has seen rumours start to circulate in the press that George Osborne could be replaced as Shadow Chancellor in the short to medium term. Rumours are rife that David Cameron is under pressure from those at the top of the party to ensure his Shadow Cabinet is whiter than white. George Osborne recently brought the party to the attention of the masses after his much publicised meetings with a Russian billionaire and the secrecy which surrounded these meetings. While he did nothing wrong, the media enjoyed the chance to throw stones at the Tory party.

There is no doubt that the George Osborne situation took much of the heat off Gordon Brown with Labour MPs attempting to suggest that it was the same old Tory party. This episode is known to have infuriated David Cameron and while he backed his Shadow Chancellor to the hilt in public debates, behind-the-scenes there is speculation that all is not well.

Many are suggesting that George Osborne will make way at the next Shadow Cabinet reshuffle although as yet there has been no confirmation either way from the party leader David Cameron. The replacement of a Shadow Chancellor is big news in political circles and likely to attract a significant backlash from the public.
