Will Barack Obama hit the ground running?

It has dominated the press for the last few months, it was rumoured to cost in excess of $100 million but today finally saw the inauguration of the 44th president of the United States of America, Barack Obama. Now that the massive ceremony has been completed and Obama takes his place in the White House perhaps we will hear more news on his ideas to refloat not only the US economy but the worldwide economy. While talk is cheap, and there has been much talk in the US of late, there is a feeling that Barack Obama has his work cut out.

However, he has been welcomed by the currency markets with news that the dollar has experienced a short-term spike on hopes that the new president will sweep away the despair and pain of the US economy and US population. Quite how long this rebound in the dollar will last remains to be seen but Barack Obama has received a very warm welcome.

His acceptance speech was full of promises, of hopes for the future and while it appeared to be gratefully accepted by the US population yet again the proof is in the pudding. He has a battle on his hands to prove his doubters wrong who suggest that he could be the "worst US president in history" for no other reason than the situation he has inherited.
