Tory party praise Jaguar Land Rover workers after recent vote
The Tory party Shadow Chancellor George Osborne has tonight praised the Jaguar Land Rover workers for their decision to accept a four-day week in a last-ditch effort to save jobs at the company. In a further remarkable turn it has also been revealed that the workers, who were balloted by their unions, have also agreed to a one-year pay freeze in order to try and reduce the cash haemorrhage being felt by the car manufacturing industry.
The deal has been reached after an agreement with the company that there would be no compulsory redundancies over the next two years and is a prime example of employees and employers working together to try and pull the company through these most difficult of times. This is not the first such deal to be reached in the UK over the last 12 months and is highly unlikely to be the last as unions and employers appear to be reaching a mutual agreement regarding future cash flow and job security.
Unfortunately, in some industries such as the car manufacturing sector many people are unsure as to whether the four-day week move and the pay freeze agreement will be enough to save an industry which is literally on its knees. Without government backing the future is very bleak for the sector although there are still hopes that the UK authorities will step in at the last minute.
