Are you getting value for money for your broadband subscription?
The subject of broadband use in UK is never far from the headlines as the sector continues to develop and speeds continue to improve. However, a recent report from Ofcom highlighted the fact that the vast majority of broadband users in the UK do not receive broadband speeds which are often advertised in the press. This has introduced a new debate into the broadband arena, are you actually getting value for money for your broadband subscription?
The truth is that, as ever, the broadband speed which you receive at your home will depend upon a number of issues but ultimately the speeds available from your broadband service provider and your distance from the local telephone exchange. It is common knowledge that the vast majority of speed is lost in the final "mile" between the telephone exchange and the user. However, thankfully there have been developments in this particular field and slowly but surely we are seeing the leakage of speed in the final mile reduced.
However, there is now a debate as to whether broadband providers should be highlighting their maximum speed as well as their average speed as they try and attract new customers in the UK.
