Gordon Brown heads to Middle East for oil talks
In his ever growing quest to be seen as a statesman of the world Gordon Brown is now heading off to the Middle East to plead for assistance from the Gulf states with regards to the price of oil. While the headlines suggest that Gordon Brown is on a mission to tell Gulf states what to do, they have never taken any notice of the West in the past.
This is an area of the world which is now amongst the most lucrative on the planet and we will probably see the Gulf states starting to push home there new found power on the international scene and push forward their own agendas. They know, and the Western governments know, that the oil producing states of the Middle East literally hold all the cards at the moment.
These are countries which were unwilling to reduce oil supplies when the price was around $150 a barrel so why they would look to reduce output at around the $70 a barrel market remains to be seen. There is a growing belief that as with so many recent trips abroad this latest venture by Gordon Brown is nothing more than a publicity stunt to keep his name in the public eye.
