Folks with more green go for eco-insurance
While previously environmentally-friendly products have been seen as the preserve of hippies and bohemians, companies have found that people with a few more notes in the bank are now investing in more eco-friendly products. According to the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), the demand for products such as 'green' car insurance has risen recently as environmental matters come under the political microscope. ETA spokesperson, David Douglas, says that insurance policies that offer discounts for energy efficient cars and employ other environmentally friendly measures are increasingly being taken up by more affluent people. He said: "Whereas in the past our customers were of a 'free living' type, now they're much more to be educated, from the south-east of the country, and prepared to pay a premium for the knowledge that they are doing their bit. So the type of customer we have is changing.""It's definitely a growth industry, and I think it will continue to grow. As long as it's high on the political agenda, the growth will be quite steep - after the election growth will probably slow down, but it will probably continue to go upwards because climate change is in the public consciousness," he concluded.
