Specialist car insurance providers 'not always cheapest'
Female drivers have been warned that motor insurance policies from women-only insurance providers do not always offer the best value for money. Research conducted by price comparison site moneysupermarket.com found that women can often find cheaper deals by choosing a policy from a traditional car insurance provider. The site highlighted the example of a 30-year-old woman who is seeking insurance for a Ford Focus or Renault Megane, who would typically pay £269 with a women-only provider. However, if she bought her policy from a traditional provider she would pay in the region of £174 - a reduction of 55 per cent. Richard Mason, director of insurance at Moneysupermarket.com, said the research illustrated the importance of shopping around for the best deal before choosing a provider. He commented: "Specialist insurers such as Sheilas' Wheels, Ladybird and Diamond promote themselves to w omen as the value alternative, catering specifically for their needs. But our research shows it pays to shop around all of the market."While these insurers may sometimes come up trumps on price, and with extra benefits such as handbag cover, chances are they will be usually be beaten on premiums."
