UK home holidaymakers 'not taking out insurance'

Many Britons are not taking out travel insurance for their holidays within the UK - despite the risk of being left out of pocket.New analysis from Sainsbury's Finance shows the potential scale of the problem, by finding that 15 per cent of British adults have never gone abroad and that around 50 million domestic holidays are taken each year at a total cost of £10.9 billion. The firm suggested that those who do not take out travel cover leave themselves open to paying for unforeseen incidents affecting their holidays themselves. These include being unable to go on holiday due to illness or having valuables stolen while away: both events covered by many travel insurance policies.Neil Laird at Sainsbury's said: "British people often holiday in the UK, whether it be their main get-away or a short break or long weekend. "It can be easy to overlook travel insurance if you are not going on a foreign break but many of the problems that you can encounter abroad can also happen here in the UK on holiday, so it is important to ensure that you have adequate cover."
