Are art and antiques the new investment market of the future?
The Royal institution of Chartered Surveyors has confirmed that more and more investors in the UK appear to be looking at the art and antiques market, pushing prices higher and higher in the short term. It would appear that many investors are concerned about the short to medium term direction of the UK stock market and have been looking elsewhere for places to invest their funds.
While the gold price continues to push higher and higher, another reflection of alternative investment ideas, the art and antiques market is also coming into focus. However, it does seem rather bizarre that this particular market is attracting significant investment funds because you would think that those likely to buy such items would have been impacted by the recession themselves?
Historically the art and antiques market would appear to hold its value fairly well compared to more traditional markets such as the stock market, and may well be seen by some people as something of a safe haven. Whether this is correct remains to be seen but money has been pouring into the art and antiques market over the last few months and an appetite still appears to be there with some investors.
