Has Google become too powerful?
Rupert Murdoch today indicated that he is seriously considering withdrawing his news content from Google's search index as the search engine giant seemingly becomes too powerful and too influential in the world of news, content and media. Whether or not Rupert Murdoch decides to go through with his plan remains to be seen but at this moment in time it would appear to be the start of a major backlash against Google which to all intents and purposes dominates each and every area of the Internet.
It would be a risk on behalf of News Corp if Rupert Murdoch decided to go ahead with this move but it is obviously a move which he has been considering for some time and he will be well aware of the pros and cons. Quite what has prompted this move by Rupert Murdoch is open to debate but obviously something has upset the veteran entrepreneur and he appears to be holding Google accountable.
It seems to be the very fact that Google has access to payment free content from thousands and thousands of reputable news sites and specialist sites, and appears to be making money "hand over fist", while other businesses continue to suffer which may be unacceptable. It is Google's expertise in advertising and creating income producing services which has pushed it to the pinnacle of the Internet mountain, allowing the company to look back over competitors struggling to get to first base!
