Were Chinese state employees involved in cyber attacks on Google?
Security experts in China are currently unearthing evidence regarding various cyber attacks on Google and a number of prominent business websites in the country. There are allegations, as yet unfounded, and that the Chinese state authorities may well have been involved in the various cyber attacks and this threatens to drive a wedge between the Chinese authorities and the US authorities.
As we covered earlier this week, Google is currently contemplating a move out of China were censorship and regulations put in place by the Chinese authorities are hampering the business. This is the first time that we have seen Google effectively up sticks and leave the country, or threaten to leave, but it could be the beginning of a significant change in the Internet world.
There is no doubt that the Internet is now a vital element of worldwide trade and if the Chinese authorities continue to be less than welcoming there is every chance the economy could suffer. While the US authorities are keen to build bridges with the Chinese state government there are concerns that recent alleged activity by the authorities may well be a step too far. This is a story which will go on and on and we will cover in the future.
