Where is the incentive to set up your own small business?

No funding, no help, no friends in the government, that about sums up the small business market in the UK, which is going through a horrendous time with many businesses actually going to the wall. Despite repeated requests for financial assistance from the government there has been nothing forthcoming although we have had plenty of spin about what they will do.

The UK has traditionally been a country which promotes and assists small business but it seems that the sector is dispensable when the economy is in trouble. We have seen massive amounts of money poured into the banking system, the money markets and even a £100 million loan to the Icelandic government to help rebuild their banking system, but what about the UK small business sector?

We are seeing more and more good businesses going to the wall because of cash flow issues, after the government refused to suspend or delay business taxes to assist the sector. Even though Gordon Brown was in the press suggesting that local authorities and government should be paying business invoices within 10 days, this is never going to happen.

The kings of spin are back and the small business sector is but a small pawn in their overall game plan.
