Woolworths distribution arm Entertainment UK goes into administration
News that Woolworths UK distribution arm, Entertainment UK, has gone into administration may well leave many retailers short of CDs and DVDs in the run-up to the Christmas period. There had been hopes that the business could be saved in the short term but this appears to be a forlorn hope at this moment in time.
The business was one of the largest suppliers of CDs and DVDs in the UK and just at the time when retailers need to be selling as many items as possible it looks as though stock will be in short supply. Normally there would be other companies to step into the breach but with Christmas only four weeks away there are serious concerns that time is running out to make up the shortfall.
The demise of the Woolworths group looks as though it will have a more serious impact on other areas of the UK high street than first thought. On a brighter note, it looks as though the Woolworths retail division could well receive a number of serious offers although administrators have suggested if nothing concrete arrives before the New Year, the stores will close in January.
