Is the small business sector dead?
While the headlines are currently dominated by the larger companies in the UK and the torrid time many are experiencing in the current downturn there is little mention of the small business sector. However, there are still many small businesses which are proving very successful even in these difficult times as very often they are able to cut costs to the bone quicker than their larger counterparts. There is also the Internet which offers a very interesting medium for small business owners to attack various markets in the UK and around the world.
While many business publications and business websites seem to concentrate on the larger companies in the UK, the Internet has been a godsend from many smaller operations. The possibility of setting up a fully automated website has attracted many entrepreneurs in the UK and around the world and seen a massive increase in so-called dot-com millionaires around the world. Many people will have you believe that the Internet has seen its best days when in reality it is still very much in its infancy.
Those online companies which are able to adapt to changing environments and keep their costs as low as possible are the ones which will still succeed even in dire situations such as we are seeing around the world at the moment.
