One-in-four would change location to get on the housing ladder
One-in-four first-time buyers would consider moving to a different part of the country to stand a chance of getting on the housing ladder, according to a poll by Abbey Mortgages.A shocking one-in-six would even consider moving abroad and the same number would take on three jobs if it meant that they could afford their first home. The research found a shift in attitudes towards getting on the property ladder as prices increase and affordability decreases with 20 per cent compared to sell items of sentimental value to pay for a house, compared with ten per cent just five years ago.Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of Abbey Mortgages commented: "It's interesting to see the lengths that people are prepared to go to for their first property. "Although it can be more difficult these days to become established on the property ladder than it has been for previous generations, there are still a number of options for first time buyers that don't require taking such drastic measures."
