Kit built houses set to make a comeback
While there was a trend towards Kit built houses in the 1980s this very soon disappeared as more and more UK consumers benefited from a growing economy and a move to more traditional housing. However the serious downturn in the UK property market has turned the limelight to cheaper less substantial housing in the form of kit built houses which appear to be back in favour.
These cheaper houses are very popular in other parts of the world but have never really taken off in the UK in a substantial way. There is a serious debate as to whether both the UK climate and UK trend towards housing is suitable for such products but it looks as though some people are prepared to take the risk in the short to medium term. It will be interesting to see how the banks respond to this move and whether they are prepared to release further finance for an as yet untested sector in the UK.
There has been very little support from the government towards such housing which in many quarters is seen as substandard and having little relevance to those in the UK. However needs must and many people are struggling to get on to the property ladder and seemingly more willing than ever to take a risk on less traditional housing options.
