Claims management firm closed down by Ministry of Justice
The Ministry of Justice, the government body which regulates claims management firms, has today announced that Cartel Client Review based in Manchester has had its authorisation suspended which will effectively close down the firm. This is a company which was recognised as one of the largest claims management companies in the UK and to which many customers have paid £495 in the hope of having their debts written off.
A number of allegations have been made against the company from various clients and it seems as though the Ministry of Justice has acted swiftly to protect future potential customers. The Ministry of Justice has advised customers of the firm who have yet to see their claims written off to contact the company and enquire about a refund. However, it is thought that the company has up to 35,000 clients and it is unclear exactly what funding is available and whether any refunds will be forthcoming to those currently out of pocket.
The claims management industry has attracted the attention of regulators throughout the UK over the last few months with concerns that many customers may not fully understand what services they are signing up for. There have also been allegations against other companies in the sector regarding incomplete transactions despite the fact that many customers have paid upwards of £495 upfront to have their debts "legally written off".
