German authorities clash with Greek government

At a time when the Eurozone should be pulling together and attempting to solve the Greek economic problem a particularly bitter argument has broken out between Germany and Greece. The argument in question relates to the Nazi occupation of Greece and compensation for those who suffered at the time.

It would appear that the Greek authorities believe that compensation, or state aid, since then does not reflect the severity of the situation. Quite why it has taken now for the Greek authorities to suggest they were under compensated by Germany is a mystery that has plunged the Eurozone to a new low with infighting certain to upset many investors.

Surely now is the time for the major EU members to pull together and put together a credible survival package for the Greek economy which was today brought to a standstill by widespread strike action. The longer the Greek economic crisis is allowed to continue the more damage it will do to Greece in the longer term and it will eventually seep through into other EU countries such as Portugal and Spain. It would appear that the EU is not the close-knit community which many EU politicians would have us believe!
