David Blunkett suggest Labour need a miracle
David Blunkett has today stepped out of the shadows to suggest that the Labour Party needs a miracle to win the next election. It is unclear as to whether this is the start of a new strategy by Labour Party, to place themselves as underdogs, or indeed a personal comment from David Blunkett, but whatever the case it has caught the attention of the political press.
While the voting polls in the UK suggest that the Tory party is up to 14 points ahead in the run-up to the election, there is no doubt that voting intentions will sway over the weeks and months ahead. Even though many people believe the next election is literally the Conservative party's to lose this is a dangerous attitude to take because complacency and neglect can come back to bite you!
Over the last few days we have seen a number of conflicting reports and comment from the Conservative party and there is some concern about the clarity of David Cameron's policies on tax and the NHS. There are also a number of irrelevant side shows such as the "airbrushing" of his recent poster campaign which Gordon Brown highlighted in Prime Minister's question time, although this nitpicking attitude could well backfire in the polls.
