Why has fraud ballooned during the recession?
Over the last few days it has become apparent that fraudulent activity is on the increase although detection rates have improved dramatically over the last two years. There are many reasons why frauds can be and are successful but over the last two years it has quite literally been a situation of desperation for many in the UK, both businesses and individuals. This has fed into the perfect scenario for fraudsters and scammers who have been using the Internet to infiltrate various groups of society.
While the figures we see regarding fraudulent activity and convictions are worrying to say the least, many believe this is just the tip of the iceberg with a number of people embarrassed or concerned about stepping forward to report scams or frauds. Many people have fallen for very simple to spot frauds although their embarrassment and unwillingness to report these attacks have allowed many fraudsters to prosper for far longer than they should have. It is worth remembering that early detection of potential frauds and new strategies by fraudsters can and has saved many people from going through similar situations.
If you have been the victim of a fraud or an attempted fraud it is vital that you report the details to the authorities so that they can take the necessary action to save others from heartache.
