Last-ditch talks to avert Easter rail stoppage

It has been revealed that rail network chiefs will sit down with the RMT union to try and avert a planned Easter strike which would bring the UK to a standstill. This is the latest in a number of controversial strike actions which are growing in regularity as businesses and the unions square up to each other, with the UK government unwilling or unable to intervene in many cases.

It seems that the UK government has learned its lesson from the Unite and British Airways debacle and taken a back seat regarding the RMT dispute. However, there is no doubt that the ever increasing focus upon the Labour Party's relationship with the unions in the UK is having an impact upon voters around the country. In what is becoming something of a drip drip effect, the constant negative headlines regarding union action, whether justified or unjustified in the eyes of many, is starting to impact upon consumer confidence and the Labour Party.

However, the truth is that there are two sides to each story and while no middle ground could be found between British Airways and the Unite union (at least in the short term) there are hopes that the RMT and the rail network management can at least give serious consideration to averting a disastrous Easter strike.
