What do you know about Nicholas William Peter Clegg?
Nicholas Clegg is the leader of the Liberal Democrats and many believe that he could act as "kingmaker" if the forthcoming general election is a very close call. Born on 7 January 1967, in Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire he is one of four children to a half Russian father, who had experience in the banking industry, and a Dutch mother.
Nick Clegg began his political career in the European Parliament, holding office between 1999 and 2004. He was then installed as member of Parliament for Sheffield Hallam and assumed office on 5 May 2005 with a 21.4% majority. During the period March 2006 to December 2007 he was the Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesman and ran for the office of leader of the Liberal Democrats with a victory announced on 18 December 2007. While not perhaps widely appreciated by all Liberal Democrats, predominantly because of his earlier criticism of Menzies Campbell, many people believe he could hold a very strong position after the votes are counted with some polls suggesting a 2% difference in support between the Labour Party and the Conservative party.
Could the relatively unknown man of politics hold the balance of power come the 7 May?
