Britain awaits a new government
With less than 30 minutes until the UK polling booths close the UK general election is literally on a knife edge with a surge in Tory support countered by an increase in Labour support. Initial indications show that the Liberal Democrat vote has fallen away over the last 24 hours although ultimately we will not know the real situation until the votes have been counted. The first results should be announced any time after 11 PM this evening and we should have a constant trickle of news through the night.
David Cameron has been on a 36 hour tour of the UK taking in over 700 miles and shaking the hands of hundreds of people. However, Gordon Brown has also being out and about over the last 36 hours, as has Nick Clegg, as the political leaders look to grab every last vote possible. Talk of coalitions is top of the pile but David Cameron believes he can ultimately take a majority in the Houses of Parliament this evening. So where will we stand tomorrow morning?
Despite renewed optimism from the Conservative party, the clever money is on a hung parliament although it looks more and more likely that David Cameron will play a role in the UK government of the future.
