Will the BP saga affect US and UK trade?
As Pres. Obama continues his onslaught against UK giant British Petroleum (as he prefers to call the company despite the fact it is actually officially known as BP) there are growing concerns over a backlash over US and UK trade. There are already reports of BP garages being defaced and there is certainly a media witchhunt in the US in relation to BP especially, although other UK companies may soon become embroiled.
It will be interesting to see how this week's chat between Pres. Obama and David Cameron progresses and whether indeed the US criticism of the UK begins to recede. The truth of the matter is that the anti-UK rhetoric coming from states is purely and simply because of the forthcoming midterm elections and the very low approval rating which Pres. Obama is currently suffering. Hopefully the US government will realise they have "made their point" and begin to back off with the overly overt criticism of the UK.
There will no doubt be some leaks at the weekend with regards to the conversation between the two leaders although David Cameron will need to be very careful because he is beginning to suffer his own backlash in the UK.
