CBI chief to call it a day
Richard Lambert, the director general of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has today announced plans to step down in 2011 after five years at the helm of the renowned UK lobby group. The CBI has been one of the main mouthpieces of the UK business arena for many years and has grown in power with the backing of significant business leaders and business groups in the UK. It has also become one of the main information providers for the UK business arena with access to detailed trend information from many businesses in the UK.
Over the last few weeks the CBI has been very vocal in its condemnation of the UK government's proposal to increase taxes in the UK and reduce the UK budget deficit at a speed which is upsetting many business leaders. So far there has been no announcement regarding Richard Lambert's successor but a headhunting company has been appointed and we should hear details of the future director general in due course.
The CBI is one of many lobbying groups in the UK which have become more vocal and more mainstream over the last few years. The UK government now takes the opinion of the CBI, and other lobbying groups, very seriously as they can offer an insight into the business arena which few other associations can match.
